How to Choose a Recovery Programme

Inpatient or outpatient treatment: Being treated on an inpatient basis requires you to live in the rehab facility for the duration of treatment. It is more comprehensive, intensive and produces better results. Meanwhile, being treated on an outpatient basis involves receiving treatment from home. You’ll attend rehab at a designated facility but go home at the end of your sessions each day. If you’re a long-term addict, have any co-occurring disorders or have combined alcohol with drugs, inpatient treatment is the best option for you.

Customised treatment: Treatment should be customised to fit your particular needs. For treatment to be effective, it must be tailored to the patient’s needs, given that no two people exhibit the same symptoms.

Location: Do you want to stay close to home or travel further afield for treatment? If you have a supportive family, it’s better to attend rehab within a two-hour radius, so that they can attend family therapy. If your environment was a major trigger for you initially, travelling outside of the area might be the only way to focus on your recovery.

Cost of treatment: Money is a major factor when choosing a rehab centre. It’s easy to be lured by cheap rehab centres, but they don’t usually offer a high quality of care or support. When you’ve trimmed your list, choose a rehab facility that balances cost and quality.

Aftercare support: As an essential part of treatment, it’s important to only attend a rehab centre that offers aftercare support. This entails continued therapy, pharmacology and support groups. Aftercare helps you to maintain abstinence after you’re discharged from treatment.
